April Fools

Since most of my life reads like an April Fool story these days, I'm not going to try and trick you here, but I thought I'd share a little topical story for today.
For my column in today's Naperville Sun, I wrote a spoof story about useless facial products. At the end I said the company was run by Dr Rafi Pollo. In England, it is quite usual to write spoof stories with anagrams of April Fool for people to read at the end, so they can realise they were being tricked.
However, when the story appeared, the name was removed. America being the litigious country it is, I have a feeling my editor didn't understand my humour and took the name out in case the paper was sued!
This morning I received an email from a local photographer offering me a free photo shoot, since I began the story complaining about how badly I photograph these days. (Not an April Fool, alas). Trouble is, he says his family originally came here from England, so now I'm not sure if he is playing a prank on me!

  • Check out the 'flying penguins' on the BBC web site. This was a great April fools film and fooled a lot of people - as stupid as it seems.
