Snow in England and America: Compare and Contrast

You can no doubt tell that the weather is keeping me in for much of today, hence the regular updates. At this rate I'll be telling you what I have for lunch!

I thought I'd share with you some of the differences between what happens when it snows in England and when it snows in the Chicago area.

1. When you have five inches of snow in America, everything carries on as normal.
2. When you have 0.5 inches of snow in England, everything seizes up.
3. Despite the snow, my cleaner still arrived before 7 a.m.
4. Last snow in England, my cleaner arrived four hours late and I applauded her perseverance.
5. Ross got to work on time this morning.
6. Last snowfall in England, it took him 6 hours to drive 20 miles home in less than half an inch of snow.
7. In England roads and pavements can be trecherous.
8. The snow plows are out in force here as soon as the snow starts. Residents are responsible for cleaning their own sidewalks (pavements), unless they are fortunate enough to have wonderful neighbours (neighbors) to do it for them!
