The Day That The Rain Came Down

Having escaped Jamaica with only the merest hint of Hurricane Ike last Monday, we arrived home to catch it on its way up through the United States. There was no wind to speak of, but torrential rain for the past couple of days. Amazingly our flight wasn't delayed, particularly amazing as O'Hare airport was closed for part of the day.

We've taken innumerable photos of the beautiful Riverwalk since we've lived in Naperville, but none quite as dramatic as these.

Sandbaggers were out in force as the Dupage river began to burst its banks.

This is Centennial Beach. (For out of towners, it doesn't usually have a waterfall, but perhaps it's a feature worth considering). Make a careful note of the slide on the right of the photo...

..here it is a couple of hours later.

Always busy, the Riverwalk attracted crowds of locals to watch the drama develop.

But I think this little fellow would rather have been inside in the dry.
