Christmas Memories

Today I heard a really old Christmas song on the radio. It was Rosemary Clooney singing Here Comes Susie Snowflake. As it started, it took me right back to my youth. Then I realized it wasn't my youth at all. It was my friend Rebecca of Sunnybrook Drive's. I'd never heard it before, but at Thanksgiving she was talking about it with her family. It struck a chord because I obviously have far fewer shared memories with friends here than I did in England. Sure we recall some U.S. TV programmes, but that's about it. No more talk about Spangles and Opal Fruits that's for sure. In my youth Crackerjack was a children's TV show, not a box of snacks.
So for now, I'll have to be content stealing other people's memories, but I'm sure they won't mind....

  • Does Rebecca remember the adventures of the cinnamon bear, an olde radio serial and Uncle Mistletoe?

  • We experience the same "borrowed memories" thing as you Hilary (being British) - Susie Snowflake quickly became a family favourite. We even have a tape (!) of the original cartoon (black & white) buried somewhere in this Bermuda Triangle we call our home. If I ever find it, and work out how to play it, we'll watch it. The friend who gave me the tape - many years ago - thought it was dreadful that we hadn't hears of Susie!!
