Chicago's Olympic Bid: It's Their Party And They'll Try If They Want To

Up until at least 10 a.m. there was great excitement in Naperville today as we waited to hear news of Chicago's Olympic Bid.

Cheerleaders and dancers performed a brand new dance - the Naperville Slide...
But NCTV17 news anchor Dolly McCarthy couldn't control herself as she realized not only did Chicago lose in the first round of the day, but that she had to keep a street party going for the next two hours.
Of course this being Naperville, the Naperville spirit prevailed, until it started drizzling.

Republican congresswoman Darlene Senger meets with party planners to decide what to do next...

In a fit of anguish, a man kicks over a display of flags...

"Anyone wanna buy a flag?" Naperville Councilman Kenn Miller looks glum.

"It's not a complete waste. Look what I got!" Darlene makes off with some patriotic balloons.
The head of Naperville Park District tries to cheer up a friend by suggesting a trip to Rio might be kinda fun.
"Look, that boy's so upset his head is about to explode!!"

"If Naperville had put in its own bid, we'd be celebrating now," Mayor Pradel tells the crowd.
The crowd decides to make the most of their time by taking practising the national anthem for when the Americans win all those Gold medals in Rio.

Maybe not quite as many flag wavers as expected.

One resident starts an early campaign for 2020.

While one disappointed camera woman wishes she'd got the Rio posting instead.
Still, for some there's always next time.
