Caught Red Pawed!

We finally caught Tufty (not his real name) in the act. Although he's trying hard to pretend to be another garden ornament, what you can't see in the this photo is the sack he is filling with pumpkin seeds. Unfortunately we have had to admit defeat, so have now replaced the real pumpkins with plastic ones. Sorry, have to go, I think I can hear an electric saw being started up outside......

  • How long were you hiding behind a bush to capture this? Long enough for the cicadas to get you?

  • This made me laugh. I'm scottish (living in Scotland) but have american family in Naperville, hence my interest in your blog! While visiting them last year at this time, my cousin had all her pumpkins displayed on her front and back porch - it all looked lovely the day I arrived. Every morning of my stay, we'd look out and another pumpkin had bitten the dust. By the end of my stay they were either a sorry looking pile of mush or gone altogether. I'd go with plastic!!

  • How lovely to hear from you, all the way from Scotland. All I can say I'm not surprised the red squirrel is an endangered species in England if this is how they carry on. They must have all been shot!

  • Tufty looks so adorable - why not put a real pumpkin in with the plastics?

  • Because he would know the difference and attack! Suppose I could always add a few plastic pumpkin seeds. That would confuse him!
