In the Red Corner...

I'm writing this from my front row seat at the side of the Vice Presidential Boxing Match.
In the red corner we have Joe Biden, in the blue, Sarah Palin. She may be a little lighter on her feet than her opponent, but is clearly hampered by her scarlett stillettos. The two only have one chance to succeed, unlike the Cubs and White Sox who I understand have five chances to play the same team before admitting defeat.
Palin, clearly the new kid in the ring, attacked Biden with all the ferocity and experience of the head of a high school debating team. Jumping up and down just below his chin, she jibed as hard as she could, but her only strategy seemed to be to dodge every question, knock it out of the ring and say whatever prepared speech was next on her list.
Unfortunately for her, not every voter is a hockey mom, and Alaska doesn't rule the world. Biden, on the other hand, spoke with the confidence of a man who has debated many times before, unfortunately for both parties.
I wonder how important policies are to the average American voter. Do they care, or is the election just a popularity contest? Will Sarah win because she is pretty, or Biden because he looks more like a politician? Will McCain win because he's not black? Will Obama win because he's young?
All I can say is it's a pretty scary time in America at the moment, and not just because of the jumpy economy...
