Living the American Dream

Mr (and Mrs) Decent Go To Washington

With all the cold and snow that is a typical Chicago winter, it's no wonder we've decided to escape to pastures new to celebrate our 29th wedding anniversary tomorrow. Where should we go over this exciting weekend? Where could be more romantic than Valentine's Day in Paris? Or how about bringing in the Chinese New Year in Hong Kong?
Since we've been there and done that, we've concentrated on the fact that tomorrow is also Abraham Lincoln's birthday and Monday, President's Day. So with that in mind, I'm proud to announce that tomorrow morning we're heading off for our first visit to Washington D.C.
For people living the American dream, it seemed the perfect place. Plus it's usually at least a little milder than Chicago. Should have known if we picked it, they'd have record breaking snowfall and be under a state of emergency. Wonder if you're allowed to take snow shovels in your carry on luggage?

  • Mrs. Neighbour and I went there on our 2oth anniversary. It really is a wonderful walking city if your hotel is near the federal buildings and the sidewalks are clear. The National Gallery of Art, the Smithsonian Museum, the National Holocaust Museum are three indoor venues not to be missed. The Capitol Building and Supreme Court are readily accessible. There are some wonderful pubs about also - alcohol and politics are a natural pair. Enjoy and happy anniversary.
