July the 4th Be With You...

Our holiday weekend didn't get off to the best start yesterday. We spent all afternoon buying extortionately expensive picnic food, plus a table to take to Central Park, Naperville for their annual patriotic concert complete with 1812 overture, reenactment and canons. In the event we could find nowhere to park, so came home, ate the food in the garden (on our normal garden table) and watched the Chicago fireworks on TV. In my continuing efforts to live the American dream, missing out on a big local event like this was very disappointing.

Anyhow, we're off for the weekend to an Illinois beauty spot (I'm reliably informed there is at least one). I can only hope things improve...
