Rodeo Drive

We finally found a way to celebrate Independence Day in a really American way. Last night we went to our first rodeo, which conveniently took place in the grounds of the resort. The place is huge, so we still had to drive, but at least we had no trouble parking this time!
This is what I learnt:
1. It's not just a show, it's actually a competition. The riders travel around the country competing.
2. This makes it a sporting event.
3. That means it can be quite lengthy.
4. Just like the Kane County Cougars, they have a clown to entertain the crowd in case there is a lull in the action. Just like the Cougars, us British were the only ones not hysterical at his juvenile antics. (Although to be fair, if they were anticipating any English visitors they would have provided tea).
5. You can ride a horse (and a bull for that matter) up to the top of a huge trailer, but you can't make him drive.
6. Unless you want to eat 25 corn on the cob, there is no Weight Watchers' friendly food at a rodeo.
7. Even in a hotel, you cannot get food past 10 p.m. in America.
8. The resort's convenience store stays open to 11 p.m. Hoorah!
9. You can buy cream of tartar but you can't buy a salad.
10. If you buy cream cheese and crispbreads make sure you get a knife, or you'll end up trying to spread it with your toothbrush.
